About This Song

It was a sunny afternoon when we decided to work on a high-energy song for the Roadshow. I had had in my mind as a starting point the image of the beat spilling into streets during a festival for the Congo HD Roadshow.

We started by layering Congo drums over a traditional Teenmaar beat to create a rhythm starting point. We continued to experiment with tempo, various fills and where to put accents. Even some of the more odd patterns of the beat eventually settled in after we reckon timing and volume.

In bringing in some electronic elements we had a contemporary feeling sound and, most of all, we maintained a traditional spirit.

By the time we got to the final mix, we both agreed that Congo HD Roadshow captured this kind of charged, energized feeling—like we were capturing the kimbi festival spirit, through a creative experience or even celebration—though a time so many different rhythms and beats had passed through the room. It was more than simply putting together the song, it was also sharing a rhythm and experience of collaboration.
