About This Song

Congo PRKT Drums originated during a jam session. My friend and I were just messing around with random drum sounds, searching for something that hit hard but also had a unique texture. The Congo drums were in the corner, just calling to us.

We started out tapping out easy patterns, figuring out how the sounds fit together--the PRKT suggested that we could put underneath it a rolling electronic drum line, and I played with different syncopated teenmaar beats to build tension and release.

It was a playful process. We tried strange rhythms, purposely played “wrong” hits, and took breaks in beats that were unexpected. Some of the sounds were wonderfully catchy. Each time we made a made a little "mistake" it we would play it back, laugh, and decide if we could keep it.

By late evening, once we had built up the layers and adjusted everything for the track, it was alive. Congo PRKT Drums was everything we had hoped for; it had that raw and punch energy that you need for parties, roadshows or anytime you need to call on some high energy percussion.
