It was a laid back afternoon, and we were in the studio experimenting with mixing styles of percussion. While brainstorming we had the idea for Congo With Original Dappu Beat when we said to ourselves "What if we mix the heavy thud of Congo drums with the dancing energy of Dappu"?

We started off with the Dappu beat, tapping out rhythms and improvisation small changes. Then we started to layer typical Congo drums underneath it, trying out different timing and accents which sometimes sounded messy from the start but soon fit seamlessly together after altering the speed and volume.

The most enjoyable part was experimenting with accidental overlaps: times when the drums interacted in unlikely ways and sounded like unique textures of percussion that made the song feel alive. By the end of the session, the song had a natural, high-energy flow that really represented a mixing of the energy of these two instruments. Congo With Original Dappu Beat was not a mix of two styles, but a celebration of rhythm, tradition and our own creativity in a fun context.
