One evening, we chose to explore electronic music. Clipping on our headphones and facing our laptops, we were immediately committed to the experiment we conceived of hearing: EDM House Beat Hard.

We began by looking for an elementary house loop, then layered on percussion, synths, and all kinds of electronic effects. My friend suggested we just try a few drops and build-ups, while I attempted to keep the punchy energy of the rhythm. Unfortunately, some of our experiments made laughably weird noises—at times it was flat and terrible—but even those "wrong" notes sometimes added flavor.

By the third hour, we could tell we had an actual track. It was a hard-hitting bassline, along with some synths that contributed energy, and approachable drums that kept your body moving. EDM House Beat Hard wasn't only about the beats; it was really about a living, organic response to listening to exciting electronic music to provide the excitement and thrill that could only come from this kind of music.
